Set it up in 30 seconds

Two speakers, one phone - no tapping between sentences.

01
Open the app, pick the two languages

Choose ZH on one speaker, EN on the other. You do this once per conversation.

02
Place it between you, and talk

Speak naturally. The app notices which side is talking and flips direction itself.

03
Show it - or play it

The other person reads the bilingual screen, or taps a line to hear it spoken.

Real translations, right in the app

Live bilingual captions as people talk, plus a saved transcript you can edit.

Chinese courtesy, English plainness

What the translation engine actually watches between these two languages.

01
「请问」isn't a word to translate

Chinese politeness folds into the sentence; English just asks. The output is rebuilt, not word-swapped.

请问您下午方便吗? → Are you available this afternoon?
02
「麻烦您」becomes 'would you mind'

A trouble-based request in Chinese maps to an English polite request - not to the literal word 'trouble'.

麻烦您帮我开一下门。 → Would you mind opening the door?
03
Written linking words like 「届时」

Formal Chinese linkers usually land as plain time phrases ('at that time') instead of ceremonial English.

届时我们再确认。 → We'll confirm at that time.

Why it beats typing into a translation box

Same meeting, same agenda - but nobody types and nobody waits for a turn to pass.

01
No per-sentence tapping

Set once, then the app follows whoever speaks. Direction is decided by the voice, not by a button.

02
Live captions, saved transcript

Each line shows as it is spoken and stays in the transcript, ready to edit, copy or share after.

03
Read it aloud for the other person

Tap a line on the screen and the phone reads it, so the other side hears their own language too.

What it does - and what it doesn't

Straight answers beat surprises: the boundaries here are the real app's boundaries.

What it does
✓Two-sided live conversations, one phone
✓Both directions, no manual switching
✓Transcripts you can edit, copy and share
✓Read-aloud buttons on every line
What it doesn't
✕Camera or photo translation

Try this: Read the text out loud - Felo translates the sound instead.

✕Offline translation packs

Try this: Keep the app open on Wi-Fi or a data plan.

✕Handwriting or keyboard input

Try this: Press the mic and speak; text stays for reviewing the transcript.

Frequently asked questions

Is Felo's Chinese to English translator free?

Yes, Felo is free to try on iOS and Android, rated 4.4 out of 5 on the App Store from 60 reviews. Longer sessions use time-based plans, such as a 2-hour plan valid for 30 days.

Can it translate English to Chinese too, not just Chinese to English?

Yes. Both directions run in the same call - set one side to Simplified Chinese and the other to English, and each sentence is translated into the other language as it is spoken.

Does the Chinese side read traditional characters as well?

Yes. Felo supports both Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese as separate languages, so the same content can be delivered in either script.

Is it suitable for business calls between Chinese and English speakers?

Yes - meetings with suppliers, customer calls, and negotiations are typical scenes. The live subtitles and saved transcript mean nothing relies on memory, and review and editing happen after the call.

Can it translate an English speech into exact business terms?

It translates what is spoken into the other language with the context of the sentence. Company name and technical terms usually carry over; industry jargon may come out paraphrased, so keep the transcript and edit once at the end.

What about Cantonese or heavy regional accents?

Standard Mandarin works best. Traditional Chinese in the app reads Mandarin pronunciation, so a Cantonese speaker should try standard Mandarin when a line is not recognized.

Does it need internet, and is there an offline mode?

It needs a network connection for live translation, and there are no offline packs. For business calls, keep the Wi-Fi stable and set both languages before the call.

How is this better than typing into a translation box?

Talking beats typing for a meeting: you both speak naturally, the app listens and translates, and the transcript remains after the call for review, so no one takes notes or reads off a pause.

Can it translate a Chinese conference call or webinar?

Place the phone near the speaker - it translates what the microphone hears. Sound from other apps on the same phone is not picked up, so listen through a different device.
