French and Japanese: two different buildings
What the translation engine actually watches between these two languages.

The sentence turns around
French goes Je veux aller à la gare, Japanese goes 駅へ行きたいです - the pieces move to the other end. The engine rebuilds the whole spine, not just the words.
Je veux aller à la gare. → 駅へ行きたいです。

Titles and gender
French nouns carry a gender and a small word: le train, gare de départ. Japanese needs no articles and no genders, so the engine drops them and keeps the meaning intact.
Le train arrive à midi. → 電車は正午に着きます。

Vous vs tu, and the keigo switch
French picks vous or tu by the relationship, while Japanese switches into whole keigo forms - so the same question is rebuilt at the right register.

The subject pronoun never goes out
French fills almost every sentence with il or elle; Japanese often drops them. The engine decides whether to put one in or take it out.
Il est arrivé hier soir. → 昨夜、彼は到着しました。

Questions turn inside out
French asks with est-ce que or inversion; Japanese puts the question word and か on the end. Two different machines, one meaning.

Greetings don't translate word by word
Bonjour, comment allez-vous is a ritual, not a question. The engine treats both sides as a greeting, not as a literal sentence.

Does it keep the vous register and Japanese keigo?
The engine is trained on spoken French and Japanese, so a speaker who uses vous usually gets a matching polite register on the Japanese side, and service keigo stays polite. If a line comes out more casual than you meant, re-speak it slowly and check the transcript.
Can a French visitor use it at a hotel in Japan?
Yes - check-in, café orders and museum tickets are typical scenes. Say a line in French and the staff hears it in Japanese; their reply shows under it in French, ready to show on the screen.
Does it handle European, Québec or Belgian French?
Standard French works best. It is trained on spoken French, so everyday speech usually comes out fine; a heavy regional accent can come out more literally. Re-speak the line and check the transcript.
Does Felo need the internet for live translation?
Yes. Live voice translation runs over the network, so keep a stable connection - there are no offline packs. Set both languages before you arrive and the first conversation is ready.
Can it read a Japanese sign or menu with the camera?

Can I use it on a phone call?
